According to a resolution of the European Council in 2008, the promotion of multilingualism is a subject of major importance in Europe (www.ec.europa.eu/languages/.../2008_0566_en.pdf). The EU has set a goal for all citizens of Europe to be able to speak one or more foreign languages. Children brought up bilingually have the advantage of speaking and thinking in two different languages and cultures, under the guidance of professional support. At the request of project manager Olga Sterenshis, has FORUM - Institute for multicultural issues wrote a "Note language and education". Because there was not enough time to translate the entire note in English it was not included in the country report. The entire note is offered in Dutch. |
